Audrey Amiss:

The Surviving Exhibitions

Draft poster (2026)

Audrey’s archive was donated by her family to Wellcome in 2014 where it has been catalogued and became the inspiration for the feature film ‘Typist Artist Pirate King’ (2023). In recognition of the attention Audrey’s work received and its resonance with the public, Wellcome has curated ‘Audrey Amiss: The Surviving Exhibitions’ which opens on 10 July 2026.

The organising principle for the exhibition is a recreation of six solo shows Audrey organised between 1986 and 2002. As such, she can be said to have co-curated the exhibition. Many of the original works were available in the archive at Wellcome , though some have proved untraceable. The exhibition encapsulates Audrey's artistic output, as well as her campaigning zeal on behalf of fellow mental health survivors. The research team consulted Audrey’s written materials in the archive and traced exhibition posters and price lists, contemporary photos of Audrey, and even a brief video of her participation in a protest.
