In 2016, film director Carol Morley ('The Falling', 'Dreams of A Life', 'Edge', 'The Alcohol Years') took up the Wellcome Trust Screenwriting Fellowship which aims to “bring the worlds of film and science closer together.” In the library at Wellcome, Carol stumbled on the uncatalogued archive of Audrey Amiss. The result, six years later, was ‘Typist Artist Pirate King’ (TAPK), a road-movie imagining Audrey’s quest to exhibit her work. Audrey was portrayed by Monica Dolan and the film also starred Gina McKee and Kelly MacDonald. The movie premiered in Tallinn, Estonia in 2022 and Glasgow in 2023. It was shown in cinemas and streamed on Netflix. TAPK is available to rent and stream at the website of the British Film Institute (and on Netflix until 11 July 2026).
